Dog Post Surgery

Surgery

For many pets, surgery is inevitable, whether it’s a routine surgery (spay/neuter, etc.) or something more complex. We know that just thinking about surgery for pets can be a reason for worry, but it certainly doesn’t have to. That’s because at Animal Kingdom Veterinary Care Center, our doctors have more than 45 years of combined experience with both soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries. Our facility is equipped with advanced tools and technology to ensure that every surgery is performed in a safe, effective manner, with an emphasis on comfort as well. Some of the dog & cat surgical services in North Liberty include:

  • Spaying/neutering
  • Laceration (repair of deep cut or tear in skin) repair
  • Mass/foreign body removal
  • Tumor and skin mass removal
  • Eyelid and skin fold remodeling
  • ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) repair*
  • Luxating patella (kneecap) repair*
  • Fracture repair (can include the use of pins, wires, etc.)*

*Most orthopedic pet surgeries are performed by Dr. Ahern, who has been practicing veterinary medicine for more than three decades.

Our Pet Surgery Protocols

We perform pre-anesthetic examinations and blood work prior to every surgery we perform. This allows us to ensure your pet is healthy enough for anesthesia. It also allows us to tailor an anesthesia plan for your pet. To ensure the safety of our patients, we use advanced monitoring equipment (EKG, pulse oximetry, etc.) to check vital signs before, during, and after surgery. We also provide pain medications as needed, for your pet’s comfort. We will provide additional pain medications for you to take home.
